Hover Parents.
Helicopter Parents.
The urban dictionary defines these people as:
Parents that hover over their children, hawkishly "helping" them face the college learning scenario. It is debated whether or not parents thathover are good or bad for their child's overall development.
Jan: Are Jane's helicopter parents back in town this weekend?
Judy: Do you really have to ask that question? They're ALWAYS in town for the weekend.
Judy: Do you really have to ask that question? They're ALWAYS in town for the weekend.
Jan: Poor, poor Jane.
A parent who hovers over their child at every step, especially on the playground, to prevent any possible bad event from occurring, specifically broken bone, interaction with less important child, fall from any height, etc.
My toddler wanted to play with the other kids at the playground but thehover-parents stood in the way
They kind of make me cringe.
I can't imagine chasing after Scout making sure she doesn't pick up that cheerio that made it under the couch. She lays on her belly on the floor and some how gets it and shoves it in her mouth. Ehh. Whatever.
I pretty much let her do whatever. Ok not WHATEVER, but kind of yeah, whatever. If she would rather eat all of her food after she pours it onto the table, fine. That also means she is eating which is fantastic!
If she wants 15 cups to put on the floor so she can pour water from one cup into another into another into, well, another. I DON'T CARE!!!
I could list so many things that I allow her to do that other parents would be like, "Ugh, what the fuck kind of parenting is that?!", but you know what, I DON'T CARE!!!
I am very much a free spirit and I cannot imagine what kind of abilities, self confidence, talents I might have if I hadn't grown up in such a confined, never go outside of the box sort of household. I am so very grateful for being home schooled from 5th to 12th grade, because that did allow me to find myself more than what I think I would have in a public school.
I am hoping by giving Scout the freedom to find herself , in which ever way that may possibly be, that she will spread her wings, explore life to it's absolute fullest and to never give two thoughts to others opinions of her.

=) hover parents are annoying
Agreed. Pretty much anything goes...including face-planting from the ottoman to the beanbag. Have fun kiddos...you're only young once!
